The Law
According to the Sales and Use Tax Rules of the Michigan Department of Treasury, a company that is engaged in industrial processing receives a partial sales tax exemption for the portion of the electricity and/or natural gas that the company uses in the production process.
Companies that qualify for an exemption and have been paying taxes have the ability to recover up to four years of back-paid taxes.
